Welcome to Lead With Soul — The podcast for spiritual entrepreneurs who are ready to build an impactful and profitable brand, create a thriving and sustainable business that aligns with your values and experience more freedom, fulfillment, and abundance in your life and business — while making a positive difference in the world. If you're ready to elevate your business and brand to a new level, manifest your vision into reality and embody the leader, you know, you're meant to be, this is the podcast for you. I'm your host, Intuitive Brand Strategist and Designer Kimberly King.
I am so excited for today's episode. This is something that I've wanted to talk about for a while now and I have talked about it here and there on my other platforms, but I really wanted to dive deeper into it and felt like it needed to be a podcast episode. So I'm really excited to be sharing this with you today and to dive deeper into this topic that I am super passionate about. So, let's talk about activism and using your platform to talk about things that you care about, to share your values, to talk about what you stand for, and what you believe in. And I really want to talk about your brand and what this has to do with your brand, how it's related and connected to your brand and why it's so important to integrate and infuse your values into every element of your business.
So if you're listening to this podcast, my guess is that you are a heart-centered spiritual entrepreneur who started their business not only to improve their own life and to grow and expand but also to make a positive impact on the world. Of course, you want to experience time freedom and financial freedom, create your own schedule and work when you want, and do work that truly fulfills you, but my guess is that there's also a deeper mission and purpose behind your business and behind the work that you do. Something that I really believe in is using your voice and using your platform to create a positive impact. The way that you do this is unique to you and your business and what is authentic to you, but it really starts with being clear on what your values are. When you have clarity on your values, it's so much easier to make decisions that are in highest alignment with who you are and it's also really impactful for your community when they know what your values are. They know where you stand on certain topics or issues so they can make an empowered decision on whether or not they choose to follow you, support you or buy from you.
So here's the thing. If you don't make your values clear, if you are not transparent about what your values are, if you are not transparent about where you stand on certain topics, people won't know. And you're leaving it up to them to make assumptions. Of course, you can't control what other people will think or how they will feel about your business or your brand, but when you are clear, when you are vocal, when you are transparent about your values and where you stand, they don't have to make assumptions. They know what you stand for and you're giving them the opportunity to make an empowered decision about whether or not following you, supporting you or buying from you is in alignment with their values, with what they stand for and what they believe in. So respect your community enough to be transparent with them.
Take a stand for what you believe in and use your platform and your voice to make a difference. I know that it can be intimidating. It can be scary. There can be so much fear that comes up when you start to use your voice and use your platform to talk about things that you really care about, so I want to give you full permission to be human. You don't have to be perfect. You don't always have to know exactly what to say. You will make mistakes. Humble yourself enough to do it anyway. True leadership involves being willing to own up to your mistakes. Be willing to be judged and criticized and to have people who don't agree with everything that you say. Be willing to be open and to learn and continue to grow. Because at the end of the day, it's not about you. It's about your bigger purpose and mission. It's about standing up and fighting for the things that you believe in. It's about using your voice and your platform to create a positive impact. This is bigger than you and your own discomfort. If we want to create long-lasting and sustainable change, we need to be willing to move through the discomfort.
So start with asking yourself — “What are my values? What do I stand for? What do I believe in? What do I support or not support?” And think about how you can integrate and infuse this into every element of your business, including your content, your offers, your onboarding experience, your sales calls and make your values a part of your brand. Even though it's incredibly powerful and impactful to use your voice and your platform and be vocal about your values, it's even more important to make sure that your actions are in alignment with what you say. Because when they are not, people can feel that. People can feel the disconnect. People can feel that there's something not quite right and it's going to make it harder for them to build that genuine relationship with you and to trust you. So make sure that your actions and behaviours are in alignment and integrity with your words.
When it comes to activism and using your platform and using your voice, something that I want to talk about is the importance of taking care of your own energy and mental health. If you are also sensitive and empathic like me and you have struggled with your mental health, it's really important to give yourself the space that you need to process your own feelings and emotions. It's okay to give yourself that space and time, but it's important not to let that be an excuse, and to also acknowledge and recognize that being able to take that space and separate yourself from what's happening is a privilege. So take the space you need. Take a day, take a week. Take the time and space you need to take care of you and your mental health, but it's important not to let that turn into a month or six months or a year because your community will notice this. Your silence speaks volumes. And I can speak from my own experience, I notice the people that I follow who haven't spoken up or taken a stand for weeks and months and years.
So if you are someone who is not currently using your voice and using your platform to talk about your values to talk about what you stand for and what you believe in, I really want to encourage you to ask yourself — “Why haven't I spoken up about this?” I'm not asking this question to shame you or to guilt you into speaking up about something, but to create awareness for yourself. Give yourself space to explore this and get clarity on why you haven't spoken up. is it that you don't know where to start? Is it that you're afraid of offending someone or saying the wrong thing? I have had all of those fears myself, so I completely understand how that feels. The great thing is that once you have clarity, you can take action. There are so many amazing resources out there. There are so many amazing coaches, mentors and teachers who can support you with this.
Something else that I want to mention is make your activism sustainable. Don't think that you need to go out and read all of the books, invest in all of the programs or start doing one our lives every day talking about your values and what you believe in and what you stand for because you're going to burn yourself out and that's not going to be helpful for anybody. So figure out what makes sense for you, what is going to be sustainable for you, and start taking action. Ask yourself — “How can I start showing up in a way that is in alignment and integrity with my values? How can I do this in a way that is authentic and sustainable for me?”
So when it comes to integrating and infusing your values into your brand and your business, it starts with being clear on your values. And once you have that clarity, be vocal about it. Let your community and your audience know what you believe in, what you stand for, what you support, what you don't support. You can put your brand values on your website, put them into your content, your messaging, create Instagram stories and put them in your highlights. Make it easy for people to know what you stand for. Because I don't know about you, but I want to invest my time, money and energy with brands, businesses and people whose values align with mine. This is also a really powerful way to build trust with your community because you are being open and honest about your values.
Let's talk about what this can look like when it comes to your business and your brand. So if one of your values is inclusivity, how are you making that a part of your business? Are you creating content with messaging and language that's inclusive? Are you delivering your content in a way that is inclusive? Are you learning how to create a safer space for your community and people in your community who are marginalized? If one of your values is accessibility, are your offers structured in a way that is accessible? Do your rates or your payment plans reflect this value? If one of your values is activism, how are you contributing to movements, causes or organizations that align with your values? How are you creating positive change within your industry, market, niche or community? Are you using your platform and using your voice to speak up about important collective issues and topics? If one of your values is integrity, are you staying in integrity when it comes to your content and your message and working with your clients? Are you taking responsibility when you make a mistake? Do you keep commitments to yourself and others and your community?
So take the time to really get clear on your values, to make sure that you have integrated your values into your business and into your brand, and that you're showing up in a way that is authentic and aligned with who you are and what you believe in. Don't skip this step because this work is absolutely essential to building a profitable and impactful brand and a thriving and sustainable business. I really hope that this episode encourages you to get clear on your values, to reflect on your actions and the way that you show up on your platform, and to start integrating and infusing your values and what you believe in into every element of your business and your brand.
